The Best of Both Worlds

As a designer, I've used and loved Macs for years but because I do Web site design, I have to also have a PC to cross-platform check sites and to work on Point2Agent sites. With my PC laptop on a steady decline ever since the cat knocked it off the desk, I recently bought an Intel Mini Mac. A couple of weeks ago I installed Parallels and Windows on my Mac. I'm amazed at how easy they were to set up and at what a great solution this has been for my work. I especially like being able to create, edit and upload graphics to Point2Agent sites without having to move them from one computer to the other.

Literally the only problem I have is remembering to Command Copy in the Mac OS, then Control Paste in Windows. It was easier for me to use the correct keyboard commands when working exclusively in one environment or the other, but copying and pasting back and forth between the two OS's on the same keyboard and monitor is trickier. In fact, simply grasping the notion that I can do that has been challenging!

The most fun part of this experience was seeing my husband's doubletake the first time he walked by desk and noticed the Windows screen saver running on my Mac monitor!

If you're a dedicated Mac head like me but forced to used a PC for your real estate work, I highly recommend this awesome solution.

I enjoy Macs also, but I started on an SGI.  I have all three platforms and use them for specific types of work.  The sgi never crashed the mac locked up regularly, but that was really the third party (Avid) software's fault. I've heard nothing but good stuff about the Mac and Windoze combination.  good luck

Suzanne, I am very impressed with your web site www.GoArmyHomes.com I can clearly see why it gets a high rating in the search engines. I hate spam and find most vendors here are just trying to get more business. But, I can see you actual provide a great service. If I start selling homes again, I'll definitely look more into your services.  Thanks for the good information.

Gregory, thanks for your comments about GoArmyHomes.com. I should explain that because it is a new site (just published in February 2007), it actually does not get high search engine ranking.

Most traffic to the site comes from banner ads that I created to match the site's branding. Broker Linda Jefferson gets good traffic by running her banner ads on a very highly ranked  local site listing real estate and rental companies.

Her site does, however, benefits from being so emotionally engaging that Linda gets several phone calls every day from military families all over the world who are being redeployed to Fort Sill.

After taking a class with Michael Russer, Linda was very nervous at first about switching from her general focus Jefferson Bentley web site to her niche targeted site, but it has been a huge success. Her office went from 0 deals in-house to 11 within two weeks of the site's launch and a high-volume agent had recruited himself to switch to her office. The last time I talked with her, her office had around 25-30 deals underway, including her first luxury home listing. To a large extent, her new success is a result of her passion for supporting her local troops. Linda is a very inspiring person.
