What Would You Do If This Were Your MLS Board?

OK, let me state right up front that I'm not a REALTOR(R) and know little about the inner workings and politics of MLS boards.  I am hoping to get some advice for my clients as well as satisfying my own curiosity.

I have two clients who've been strung along by their MLS Board for over a year. They're in a major Western metro area. The board has been telling them that 1ParkPlace IDX service would be available in their area in a few weeks or months. Both agents need 1ParkPlace to do certain types of searches on their niche-targeted Point2 sites. Last year, it was supposed to be available in November. Then January. A month ago, it was supposedly to be available by mid-August. Then late August. Now, not until the new board president comes in at the end of the year because the current president can't or isn't allowed or won't sign the agreement with 1ParkPlace. If it's not available until then (and who seriously believes that it will be), then it will have been at least 1 1/2 years that these two agents have been strung along by their MLS board.

What would you do if you were in either agent's position and your Web site business were being crippled by your board's failure to serve your needs? How would you go about exerting pressure on the board to serve your needs as well as those of other agents in your area?

I can see how frustrating this must be for your clients as well as yourself.  They can't do anything without the board approval. So looks like they can do only two things.  Join the board and make changes or start a petition of the actives members to force the issue.  Sounds like the present board members are not computer people and have no understanding of the importance of the Internet in today's RE market place.

Ohhhhh do not get me started! LOL I could really tell some good stories from the inside. Not inside anymore, but when I was I delighted in stirring it up.

Suzanne I would suggest that any alternate way to get the IDX for your people, do that. Waiting for a board of nonprogressives and if they aren't it's the exception, is like waiting for the second coming. Waste of time.

Welcome to my nightmare Suzanne. I have gone to ARMLS and begged, pleaded and groveled to no avail. They just don't get it. All I ever get back from them is "we're working on it. Soon, blah blah blah."

They are idiots, plain and simple. If I had the time, I'd organize a grass-roots campaign to oust them and get people on there that have a freaking clue about real estate in the 21st century.

Right on Jay. AND technology in real estate. The people who need to handle the MLS stuff need to be both rooted in IT and practicing real estate professionals. If you miss one of the two, no functionality. And a lot of sorry agents who can't service their clients properly.

Don't get me started!  I have emailed every board member on a topic and not one gave me any feedback.

I can't believe how many dumb (sorry) agents are out there.

I don't believe that these non tech agents will be around in 3 years!

Listing book is an amazing product!!!!! yet no one gets it!.

I imagine what you are running into is an old guard that wants to keep all things MLS the exclusive right of Realtors and not easily available to the public.

In my life as an Optometrist I saw old guard members resist new innovations like one hour service on eyeglasses and laser eye surgery. Those who refused to live in the present and plan for the future were soon out of business.
