What's in a name

Sometimes it takes me a few days to catch up on my reading.  I read Candance's thread about Email , yahoo etc.  My name is Tommy Fergeson.  Now spell it real quick in your mind.  Go back and check to see if you were correct.  Did you put a U in it?   About 5 years ago I brought Tommyfergeson.com.  People would call and say I can't find you on the web.  I was discouraged with this because Saul Klien said I needed to brand my name.  Then I thought how do I brand with a name that is misspelled 90% of the time.  I came up with "tferg", short, catchy, and easy to spell.  I checked to see if I could buy "Tferg.com" and it was not available.  someone owned it but there was no web page.  I checked every month for 3 years to see if it was available. It became available and I bought it.  Tferg.com now points to Tommyfergeson.com and my email address is tferg@tferg.com.  I have found that people remember this very easy and have even been nicknamed Tferg by local Realtors.  Sometimes the KISS theroy works.

By the way when I spelled checked this Ispell wanted to change Fergeson to Ferguson.

Smart!

My name is long to remember, let alone spell, but I have CandiceInAZ which is better.

And I agree with Saul that you should brand your name, but even moreso brand your connection with your market . . . one of my best URLs in terms of popularity is

http://www.BullheadRiverfronts.com

Google Riverfronts in Bullhead City and it comes up 2 and 3 on front page.

I'm trying to keep it simple. I use local zip codes, like www.83616.com . Everyone remembers the zip code they live in.  Just starting to promote the site in 83616, we wil see how it goes.

I registered our office phone number www.2237878.com and one of the agents had a fit about it. I asked the owner and others "Who searches by phone number?" If you already know the number, wouldn't you just call? I thought it would be an easy way for my clients to remember how to reach me. When I stopped using it I put something up on it that said something to the effect that if you have reached this page, you were about ten years ahead of your time since searching by phone number hasn't been invented yet. That really p!!ssed him off........too bad!

Cool. Me too on the catching up. Will want to read Candice's post. However, secret to name recognition. You don't have to have the web site your name. Just put it in the search engine information, keywords, and titles. When you pull up my name you get both of my web sites and a lot of other things. Heehee. No not Miss America. But some of the places I advertise like the chamber, and it does vary depending on which Search engine you use, yahoo, google, etc....Of course you do want your name rider on signs for neighborhood recognition.

Also, when I advertise in papers, not to often these days, I bought a domain called REagentKaren.com. that got me past the rules of advertsing saying I was an agent and pointed to my main page, rather than giving out the address in the paper so they had to call or visit web page. Saved on # of words. Our paper puts all of the line ads on line therefore giving a direct link to my web page, but if you do direct link you have to put the www in front of it.

Saul Klien/e-PRO course recommends buying your name AND the common misspellings of it. That is why I own RealtorThompson.com and RealtorThomson.com

Could you buy TommyFergeson.com and TommyFerguson.com and have them both point to TommyFergeson.com?

I like "tferg" though! I think you have a winner there! I could not buy BillThompson.com since it was taken already.
