I Live and work in the Highland Lakes area of Texas. This area consist of 5 lakes from Lake Buchanan in northern Burnet Co to Town Lake in Austin Texas. This area has not seen the slow down that has happened in other areas. I read an article on one of our local TV stations web page not long ago. Here are some of the highlights.
1700 homes were started in the Austin area in 2006. This is 6,000 than the year before.
Analysts say that the reason for so many homes being constructed in the area is because it continues to be a place where everyone wants to live.
One of the reasons the area didn't have a slump in our real estate market like so many parts of the country experienced is because our appreiation rates stayed steady. While some homes in California appreciated as much as 50%, austin area homes appreciated 5 to 7%. Plus home builders didn't overbuild.
