It was a difficult day

I understand the first step is admitting you have a problem. I think I realized today, I have a problem!

           Sony Vaio       Cingular 8125

The phone was ringing off the hook all day long, and I was getting important e-mails and faxes via my laptop. Then it happened! I went to an area that didn’t have cell service and I couldn’t get on the internet either.

I had no phone calls, e-mails or faxes for three hours and after about 30 minutes I realized that the phone hadn’t rung and I went to check it and that is when I saw “NO SERVICE” I wanted to leave and drive the 15 minutes to get to a service area, but I was with a client.

I am officially addicted to my technology and I didn’t realize it until I didn’t have it! My wife decided at some point this summer she is taking me to a place that I can’t use any of my electronics to try to break me of my technology addition.

What’s your addiction?

Todd, I think your wife has a great idea, I too would be lost without my computor and cell phone. When I go away my laptop and cell phone always go with me, but it might nice to go away without them just once.

This is why I carry a paper calendar.  Also, I take the portable phone in the car with me.  Ha Ha

Todd,

Now that you know you are addicted, you need to join the TAA (Tech Addicted Anonymous).  "Hi my name is Todd Clark and I am addicted to "Tech".  And the crowd will warmly welcome you like a classroom of goggling first graders - "HI TODD!"

I went through it last year and I am still having occasional relapses.

But you can do it!

Ok, I don't see a problem here. If it gets to the point that your wife has to join relib to converse with you, I think you should seek immediate attention. But for now, I think you're good. Or maybe as good as it gets. lol

OK - Mary I am in trouble then.

She has sent an IM from the other room to get my attention and Gloria that was funny!

John, I had to laugh because my mom is a kindergarten teacher and I get that greating everytime I visit her class room.

Lori, I'm not so sure I do like my wifes idea. What if I lapse into a coma because of the shock to my system?

Ok, Todd, I will cut you some slack there, but you aren't telling your kids to clean their room on Active Rain yet are you?

Several years ago I joined a group and one of the things that they did a lot of was canoeing. I had been boating before but never canoeing. I can't tell you how enjoyable it was leaving all my electronic 'stuff' safe at home or in my trunk rather than having it in the water if we capsized (which was one of the pranks everyone liked to do to others that were able to stay dry). The only thing I took along was my watch and some money which I kept in an airtight & floatable 2 lb. coffee can.

Your wife should take you canoeing! You'll get some sun, enjoy seeing property that you wouldn't normally see from a highway, and spend some quality time together (as long as she paddles properly!)

Todd, when pressing current business is taken care of and the wife and I decide to spend some time together, we intentionally turn the phones off or leave them at home.  We managed an entire long weekend of virtual solitude.  Letting people know we were going out of town also helped.  The whole experience was surprisingly pleasant.  You wouldn't believe how quickly we logged on to our computers and checked email when we arrived at home.
