As I’ve gotten older, my parents have gotten smarter

I don’t know what has happened to my parents, when I was five, my parents were the smartest people on the Earth and I would want to fight anyone who said different. But, then for some strange reason, when I became about 12, they starting eating Wheaties and drinking Tab cola and I think it affected their brains. They were actually quite dumb and I wouldn’t believe that the public school system was allowing them to teach other parents kids.

Then I hit 21, and I think they stopped making Tab, and I noticed they were eating Cheerios instead of Wheaties, I think it helped them. I noticed their higher brain function was starting to come back and they were getting smarter again. I was starting to feel better about our kids in the public school system having a chance, now that my parents are so smart.

Now that I have kids, I’ve started to watch what I eat and I eat only Cheerios and avoid Tab, now that I see that it is back on the market. I hope the science in the Cheerios box helps keeps me intelligent through my entire kids’ lives.

I was shocked when reading the Cheerios box that it doesn’t say a thing about keeping parents smart, it does say it keeps you heart smart. Maybe that is what my parents needed!

Cheerios say they will keep your heart smart, we need a strong heart to deal with the GP (general public). But to make the experience less overwhelming I find it helps to eat Fruit Loops on occassion as well because sometimes you have to think how they think. I am thinking Fruit Loops or Corn Flakes help in this way. I seem to get fruits and flakes.

Funny post, Todd.  I was lamenting not too long ago on here that I'd be glad when my teenager, who is now 15, turns 18 so I can stop being stupid.  My other son is 27 now -- I think I had to wait until he was 23 before I wasn't stupd - just in time for the younger one to make me stupid again.

It's not what we eat that makes us stupid, it's the kids that make us stupid.  Just way too many young hormones swirling around the house affecting our old brain synapses.

You've heard the saying, "youth is wasted on the young."  WE need that energy.

Bee I hope you are ok. Hot coffee is not good on skin. I remember one morning I was so groggy I went to put the coffee cup up to the pot (the kind that dispenses coffee, so you don't have to see it to pour it) and my cup started running over and I could not figure out why, I had the stupid cup upside down. I was groggy. Ok, stupid human trick.

Stupidity is infectious.  My daughter thought I was cool and brilliant until atleast 10 - now at 15, not so much.  My son has never really thought I was all that bright due to his being corrupted by my daughter (he's 6)....

He also came in with the comment the other day that 'girls can't do....'

I said I may not be that bright babydoll but mama can make you a girl if you keep that up...

We'll see how that goes.  I could see the light go on in his eyes - maybe mama's smarter than he thinks

The best words to come from my son's mouth were "Dad maybe your not as dumb as I used to think you were".

My Father told me once that we should all go forward on our own at the age 14 to 15, Get your own appartment,Travel, Do whatever you feel you want to now while your still smarter than I am, For the day will come before you know it when you are not as smart as your son or daughter.

I remember when I thought my parents were so uncool and stupid, I wanted long hair and bell bottoms,Tire tread sandals and rose colored sunglasses'

Then my son's wanted to have short hair and go to school with there pants 4 sizes to big and there underwear showing man was I stupid for not wanting them to dress like that.

I'm not sure how my grand kids are going to find out how stupid my son's are yet but I can only HIDE and WATCH with baited breath lol.

When my oldest was going through the weird hair and baggy pants stage, I kept in mind how my folks tried to control my mini skirts and long straight hair parted down the middle.  I was ok with him until he started missing curfew and being disrespectful.  So, I told him I thought those "gangsta" clothes he was wearing was affecting his attitude.  I gathered them all up, gave them to Goodwill and bought him jeans that actually fit him from Target.  He ran away from home for 2 weeks because of it, then he called me to say he was ready to follow my rules and wanted to come home. :)
